Geraldine Brennan counsellor

I am a professionally qualified, experienced, counsellor and psychotherapist based in Dublin 6 and a member of IACP (Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and IAHIP (Irish Association Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy).  I trained for 5 years with the Irish Gestalt Centre to become a counsellor and psychotherapist. I also hold an honours sociology degree. As a counsellor, I have experience of clients from all walks of life with a wide variety of issues including anger, anxiety, addiction, bereavement, depression, low self confidence, self esteem, stress, personal growth, relationship difficulties, panic attacks, social anxiety, bullying. Finding someone that you’re comfortable talking to is as individual as you are. My qualifications and experience in counselling are complemented by over twenty years work as a professional in management. This further helps me to understand the real life issues, challenges and difficulties people face as part of life.

My approach to Counselling and Psychotherapy would primarily be Person-Centred and Humanistic. However, I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy and also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Mindfulness Techniques if they are more appropriate to my client’s needs. I provide you with a warm, respectful, non-judgemental environment which is based on support and confidentiality. My aim is to make it safe for you to be completely open about how you feel and what you think, with me and with yourself. You are encouraged to ask questions and we will work at your pace. Whatever you are now dealing with, I will be glad to meet with you and talk through the problems and offer a variety of solutions.
I believe that everyone holds the key to their own healing and that my role is to help you access your own potential, build your self-esteem, confidence and self-acceptance, to create the life you want.

Background

As well as working in private practice, I also work as an Affiliate Counsellor for agencies such as Inspire, VHI, Laya, BUPA, Carecall, Abate and Workplace Options. This work provides short term counselling and psychotherapy support to employees of companies such as banks, colleges, multi-national and national organisations, etc. I support employees struggling with presenting issues such as stress, anxiety, bereavement, low self esteem, parenting, addictions and many other issues. This shorter term work tends to be more solution focussed, using Solution Brief Focussed Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools, in addition to Mindfulness, to help dissolve old unwanted thinking habits which arise during stressful times.

I had over 20 years of management experience working in the manufacturing and retail services sector before choosing to follow my passion and set up my own counselling and psychotherapy practice.

Location

My practice is located in a comfortable and private setting, assuring my clients of a professional and confidential service at all times. I aim to be flexible to my client’s needs and therefore offer appointments during the day and evenings.

I offer an initial consultation, with no further obligation, to help you decide whether you think counselling with me will be helpful.
